Terms of Service
Last updated: August 2, 2026
1. Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using joypad.ai, config.joypad.ai, or any services provided by Joypad Inc. ("Joypad," "we," "us"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use our services.
2. Our Services
Joypad provides:
- Controller Tester — a free browser-based controller tester at joypad.ai that uses the Gamepad API and WebHID to test game controllers locally in your browser.
- JoypadOS Configurator — a web tool at config.joypad.ai for configuring JoypadOS-powered devices over WebUSB and WebSerial, including a built-in button tester.
- Controller Adapters — hardware that lets you use supported controllers across platforms, designed by Joypad or by official JoypadOS partners. Each product page names its seller (see Hardware Purchases).
- Open Source Firmware (JoypadOS) — firmware for our adapters, released under the Apache License 2.0.
3. Browser Tools
The browser-based tester and configurator communicate with your hardware via browser APIs (Gamepad API and WebHID for the tester; WebUSB and WebSerial for the configurator). All device interaction happens locally in your browser — no controller data is transmitted to our servers.
You grant the necessary browser permissions at your own discretion. We are not responsible for any issues arising from firmware updates or configuration changes you apply to your devices through the tool.
4. Open Source Firmware
JoypadOS is open source software released under the Apache License 2.0. You are free to use, modify, and distribute it under the terms of that license. The firmware is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind. See the full Apache License 2.0 for details.
5. Hardware Purchases
Each product page names the seller you are buying from. Most hardware listed here — including hardware designed by Joypad — is sold by independent retailers such as Controller Adapter and RetroFrog, and choosing "Buy" takes you to that seller's own store. Where Joypad is the seller, the product page will say so.
Whoever sells the product is responsible for payment, shipping, order issues, returns, refunds, and any hardware warranty, and their terms and return policy apply to that purchase. If a unit arrives defective or an order goes wrong, contact the seller you purchased from — for third-party retailers they are the only party who can process a return or refund.
Either way we're glad to help with the parts that are ours: JoypadOS firmware, flashing, configuration, and controller compatibility. Reach us at joy@joypad.ai and we'll do what we can, or point you to the right place.
Prices, availability, and specifications shown here are provided for convenience and are set by the seller — they can change without notice. Modifying firmware or hardware beyond documented use cases may void the seller's or manufacturer's warranty.
6. Newsletter
When you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your email address to send you product updates, launch announcements, and related content. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email. We won't sell or share your email with third parties.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use our services for any unlawful purpose.
- Attempt to interfere with or disrupt our services or infrastructure.
- Reverse engineer our proprietary hardware designs (open source firmware is fair game).
- Misrepresent your affiliation with Joypad.
8. Intellectual Property
The Joypad name, logo, and website content (excluding open source code) are the property of Joypad Inc. The joypad-os firmware and related open source projects are licensed under their respective open source licenses.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Joypad and its officers, employees, and contributors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of our services, products, or firmware — including but not limited to damage to controllers, consoles, or other hardware.
Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid to Joypad in the 12 months preceding the claim.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
Our services and tools are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not guarantee that the controller tester tool will work with every device or browser combination.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll post the updated version on this page with a revised date. Continued use of our services after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts located in Texas.
